You can see the descent toward this partially-burned forest. Deadfall Darla has now taken the lead. She is clearly in her glory. First, an old road. Now a patch of downed timber.
I even allowed the infectious enthusiasm to infect me. I remember making some comment about how it is easier to negotiate deadfall in winter on snowshoes. These words would haunt me shortly after I uttered them.
At this point, the wind is blowing so hard that my ears are showing early signs of frostbite. (After all, what kind of hat would "Ballpark" be wearing, but a ballcap.) My parka was in my pack and I was wearing lightweight gloves. I stopped to change hats, change gloves, and put the parka on.
